1 Timothy Background Info

  • Time: Probably ~mid 60s, a few years before Paul was executed under Nero in A.D. 68 at the latest. Paul released from first imprisonment in 62 A.D. then wrote 1 Timothy.

  • Purpose: Paul wrote to Timothy to give him advice about some things that were going on in the church. Paul wants Timothy to deal with these things, false teaching for the most part, which brought in other ideas to the church. Christians need to live lives that are shaped by the gospel and produce fruit.
